El Correo de Bogotá: an innovative press for a republic in the training process

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the development of the press in the first years of the Republic of Colombia through the study of the Correo de Bogotá in its five years of existence. For this, the administrative complications and the different strategies for its financing, its structure, the thematic emphases and the function fulfilled by the classified ads in a society permeated by new social dynamics promoted by the republican leaders will be analyzed. Valuable was the contribution of this weekly to the process of consolidating independence, which was also key to its relationship with other print media, which formed an articulated community of newspapers that served as support and defense of the new liberal regime and that it put of present the solidarity of the American nations around the common intention to consolidate free and sovereign Republics
