Abstract

This article establishes the demographic conditions in which the city of Quito was at the beginning of the 20th century. For this purpose, the census carried out in 1906 by the Statistical Office has been processed. Clearly, the population and its structure are drawn by sex, age, marital status and occupation, which precisely highlights the economic activities of its people. In some way it is a firm approach to establish the size of the population in the face of repeated speculations since the 18th century, which for the most part have added to the towns of the five leagues as part of the city.
