On July 24, 1909, the founding act of the Ecuadorian Society of American Historical Studies was signed. The constitutive act was signed a few days later, on August 7, 1909. This society agreed to appoint the Rev. Dr. Federico Gonzalez Suarez as Life Director. After its constitution, the most representative personalities of different cities of the country were invited, such as: Ibarra, Otavalo, Quito, Ambato, Latacunga, Riobamba, Guaranda, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Portoviejo, Esmeraldas and Loja. Dr. Franklin Barriga, in his book: González Suárez la Patria y la Academia2 , lists in detail the names of the Founding Members and those invited to become Corresponding Members.
