LA RED ERUDITA DE PAUL RIVET EN EL ECUADOR: AGENTES, SABERES Y OBJETOS
Keywords:
collections, museums, transnational, Ecuador, FranceAbstract
Under the approach of cultural history and connected history, this study analyzes the scientific and cultural connections developed by Paul Rivet, military doctor of the Second French Geodetic Mis- sion, with the different scholarly circles of Ecuador from 1901 to 1906. The diverse types of exchanges between these two “agencies” are approached as “contact zones” that participate in the production of scientific knowledge, the formation of collections and the develop- ment of a global network of science and art. In this way, it seeks to reflect on what were the interactions between the geodesic and its collaborators (scientists, collectors and huaqueros), the same interac- tions that led to the development of the Franco-Ecuadorian museum phenomenon.
