The University Reform of Cordoba in 1918 was a general modernization of universities, especially tending to democratization, caused by student activism during the administration of President Hipólito Yrigoyen, the first democratic government. The events began in Cordoba led by the students published a famous manifesto of the University Federation that reverberated and spread throughout Argentina and then to much of Latin America. The reform established the freedom of universities to define their own curriculum and manage their own budget without the interference of the central government. This university reform has had a profound effect on the academic life of universities through the process of nationalization that presumes academic freedom and independence throughout university life.
