Abstract

This work constitutes a contribution to the knowledge of the history of a current population located in the Metropolitan District of Quito. Nobody has published any monograph of Zámbiza that exposes information taken from unpublished documents, so that nothing is known about land tenure in said parish, nor about the names of its owners. With this opportunity, for the first time, we pu - blished original documentation on Zámbiza. The present study summarizes land tenure and owners based on location and summary of documents.

Zámbiza is a parish located immediately northeast of Quito, which bordered on the parish of Cotocollao and Guayllabamba and included the current parish of Calderón. Calderón was founded only in 1897, in the old Carapungo. The old parish of Zámbiza included: Nayón, Llano Grande, Llano Chico, Carretas, Carapungo, Cocotoc, Oyacoto, Tanda, Chinguiltina (Today: Mariana de Jesús), Collas, Calderón, San Isidro de El Inca, San José de El Inca and some other annexes.
